서울 왕궁수문장 교대의식

‘서울 왕궁수문장 교대의식’ is a flagship traditional culture reenactment event hosted by Seoul that vividly brings back the guard change ceremony of the palace gate guards from the Joseon Dynasty. The su문장 was a sixth-rank government post, and together with the chamha and the palace guards under 수문장청, they guarded the palace gate, controlled entry and exit, and carried out patrols. The ceremony is based on historical records and unfolds around 덕수궁 in the late Joseon period. The event is held six days a week, except Mondays, at 11:00 and 2:00 in front of 대한문 at 덕수궁. To add interest for local visitors and overseas travelers, a range of hands-on programs is also offered. ‘개식타고 체험’ lets visitors beat a drum to signal the start of the ceremony; ‘나도 수문장’ lets visitors wear a guard uniform and try the role; and ‘전통복식 체험’ is a popular program where visitors can wear Joseon-era clothing and take photos.
