*The festival details below are based on the previous year (2025); the 2026 festival details are currently being updated.* In Pohang, the “city of fire and light,” the signature cultural tourism festival, the Pohang International Fireworks Festival, is held every year. The festival began in 2004 with a fireworks show held to commemorate Pohang Citizens’ Day, using the images of “light,” symbolizing Pohang as a world-class steel city, and “fire,” symbolizing the blazing furnace. It later grew into an international-scale festival, with famous fireworks teams from overseas taking part every year. The program has also expanded beyond simple fireworks to combine industrial and cultural elements, including produced performances and a light parade, creating a vibrant festival of harmony.
