👎 #BAD with Hongseok and Kino 👍 #Shorts

What happened

ATEEZ's official channel posted a Short whose title pairs the hashtag #BAD with 홍석 (Hongseok) and 키노 (Kino). The description tags #PENTAGON, the group Hongseok and Kino belong to, alongside #ATEEZ and #GOLDENHOUR_Part5.

Why Koreans care

The title names only 홍석 (Hongseok) and 키노 (Kino), followed by 님 (nim, a polite suffix that goes after a name and is not part of it). It names no ATEEZ member. The description also carries #GOLDENHOUR_Part5, a tag that matches the name of ATEEZ's GOLDEN HOUR release series, but nothing in the description says how this Short relates to that series.

In the Korean comments

This covers 15 Korean-language comments read from the live comment list (the video had 266 comments when they were collected). Nobody checked who wrote them, and all fifteen are warm. The comment with the highest like count in the sample (235 likes) is a general well-wish to the group rather than a comment on this Short. The title names only the two guests, yet seven of the fifteen comments name 성화 (Seonghwa), the ATEEZ member the title leaves out. Only one comment names 홍석 (Hongseok) and 키노 (Kino). Two of the Seonghwa comments phrase it the same way, as seeing nobody else. One reads, in translation, "Nothing but Seonghwa gets into my eyes... the outfit is insane." Another reads, in translation, "What am I supposed to do about my eyes that see nothing but Seonghwa,,". Three comments are about the outfit. One likes the 청청코디 (cheongcheong kodi, denim-on-denim styling). One calls it 저 레전드 착장 (jeo legend chakjang, "that legendary outfit"). The third is the "insane" comment quoted above. One comment singles out 카메라 무빙 구도 (kamera mubing gudo, camera movement and framing). Three comments are about the run of challenge videos rather than this one. One reads, in translation, "Honestly, this is the first time I've seen a male idol group post this many challenges, I really respect it. KQ, ATEEZ, I love you." Another reads, in translation, "To think there are still challenges left to come out, hard-working ATEEZ." A third laughs that they "really filmed a lot of challenges". Only one comment calls this a collaboration. It reads, in translation, "It feels like a dream to get to see an ATEEZ and PENTAGON collab!" It goes on to praise everyone's visuals and 춤선 (chumseon, dance line, the shape a dancer's body draws in motion).

What the words mean

용안 (yongan) literally means "dragon face", the old honorific word for a king's face. In the two comments that use it, both attached to Seonghwa's name, it is a mock-grand way of saying his face is strikingly handsome. The register is playful fan hyperbole, flattery rather than a description of royalty. 미쳤다 (michyeotda) literally means "has gone mad". Two comments use it as praise, one for a face and one, spelled 미쳣네 (michyeonne), for an outfit. It means "unbelievably good". The register is casual, exaggerated praise. 열일티즈 (yeoriltijeu) joins 열일 (yeoril, short for "working hard") to the tail of 에이티즈 (Eitijeu, ATEEZ). It is a coined nickname, literally "work-hard ATEEZ". The commenter uses it to salute the group for still having challenge videos left to release. The register is affectionate wordplay.
