Dino's 'Micheo Micheo': Bag Decorating Challenge

What happened

In this episode of his series 디노의 미쳐 미쳐 (Dino-ui Micheo Micheo), SEVENTEEN's DINO takes on 캐럿 (Carat, SEVENTEEN's fandom). He says he has heard Carats decorate their goods to suit their own taste, so he will try it, first by decorating a bag and then by making a key ring. In the bag part he fills a bag with official goods, including a light stick, a hand fan, a hat and photo cards, while saying he does not have much manual skill.

Why Koreans care

A caption labels the episode 디노의 캐럿 체험기 (Dino-ui Kaereot cheheomgi, roughly "Dino's Carat experience report"). Later captions shorten the first task, decorating a bag, to 가.꾸 (ga-kku). Dino frames the whole episode as trying what he has heard Carats do with their goods. He says he is seeing these official concert goods in person for the first time. At the hand fan, a caption reads, in translation, "made with my face, but fascinating." He floats putting hearts on both cheeks in 로즈쿼츠 (rojeu kwocheu, rose quartz)&세레니티 (Rose Quartz and Serenity), which are SEVENTEEN's official colors, a pink and a light blue. The slogan he ties to the handle has 디노야 (Dino-ya, calling out "Dino") and 사랑해 (saranghae, "I love you") on it. A caption states that the production crew made it for filming. While decorating the fan, he says the concept at the time was a train captain, so he wanted a badge on it. He picks one showing an animal he cannot decide whether to call an otter or a sea otter. The title sets 춤 5시간 추기 (chum 5-sigan chugi, dancing for five hours) against a blanked-out "OOO 만들기" (OOO mandeulgi, making OOO). The captions supplied never mention dancing. They name bag decorating and key-ring making as the two tasks.

In the Korean comments

One comment reads, in translation: "Wait, his stomach isn't good but he eats spicy food, and he has no manual skill but he's decorating, what is this, the challenges never end." The second half matches what Dino says on camera about not having much manual skill. Another comment also looks back to an earlier spicy-food-eating episode, with the words "last time's spicy-food eating" in translation. The series is called "Dino's Micheo Micheo," and the episode is announced as "캐럿에 미쳐 미쳐" (Kaereose micheo micheo, going wild for Carat). Two comments turn that back on him. One describes a Dino who is, in translation, "by Carat, for Carat, and knows nothing but Carat," and ends on the title's own words, 미쳐미쳐 (micheo micheo). Another reads, in translation, "Carats go crazy over Dino." Two comments name Yoon Jeonghan, another SEVENTEEN member. One asks, in translation, whether Dino never realized "until the end" that Jeonghan-hyung had "played around and left." The other opens with "Yoon Jeonghan, what is this," spelled 무야 (muya, a cutesy spelling of "what is it"). The captions supplied do not show what Jeonghan did, so this is a lead for a second watch, not a confirmed detail.

What the words mean

미쳐 미쳐 (micheo micheo) is built on 미치다 (michida, to go mad), so the literal reading is "go crazy, go crazy." In this series the pattern "X에 미쳐 미쳐" (e micheo micheo, going wild for something) means going wild for X, being wildly into it. The captions announce this episode as "캐럿에 미쳐 미쳐" (Kaereose micheo micheo, going wild for Carat). The register is playful and exaggerated, and it is not a warning. One comment uses it as a plain exclamation: "Dino is so cute, going crazy!" in translation. 감다살 (gamdasal) is internet slang short for the phrase "the instinct is fully alive." It praises something for having sharp sense or being right on point. One comment opens, in translation, "What is this on-point content?!" and uses 감다살 (gamdasal, sharply on point) for "on-point." It goes on to say it suddenly feels like being a fan of a 5세대 (5-sedae, fifth generation, the label for recently debuted K-pop groups) act, and that his looks are "fifth generation" too.
