What happened

In a rapid word-building exchange, the speakers combine fragments into “Magnetic,” “guinea pig,” and “Girls’ Generation.” The last answer prompts an argument over whether “girl” was actually heard.

Why Koreans care

The final pairing is 소녀 (sonyeo, “girl”) plus 시대 (sidae, “era”): together, 소녀시대 (Sonyeo Sidae, Girls’ Generation), the K-pop group’s Korean name. The challenge therefore depends on recognizing a cultural proper noun quickly, not merely forming an ordinary word.

What the words mean
