Hwadojin Festival is Incheon Dong-gu’s leading historical and cultural festival, held every year to honor and carry on the history and traditions of Hwadojin, a military camp established during the Joseon era to prepare for invasions by foreign powers. Incheon’s oldest military camp festival and a signature local celebration, it returns for its 36th edition from 2025년 9월 5일부터 7일까지, running for three days around Dongincheon Station North Plaza and Hwadojin Park. Welcoming approximately 16만 participants, the festival centers on official events that recreate historic scenes, including a grand opening with traditional drum performances and a closing ceremony featuring calligraphy, as well as the Eoyeongdaejang fortress-building procession and the royal decree presentation ceremony. A vibrant lineup of cultural performances includes musicals, choirs, Dong-gu DongROCK, busking, and historical talk concerts, alongside participatory stages such as a children’s dance competition, a youth fringe festival, and a residents’ singing contest. Hands-on activities, including traditional military camp experiences, craft workshops, and drone experiences, come together with a food market, flea market, and nighttime illuminations, making this a festival for everyone from families to travelers.
