Translated from X post

The reason K-pop feels boring is just that you guys are f*cking old………… Even during 4th gen, when NewJeans—the group you all kept going on about—was around, K-pop was constantly getting dragged as boring as sh*t, with everyone saying 3rd gen was more fun. I thought you people had come back from some alternate universe….. Just admit it. You’ve become yet another lame oldhead from the older generation.

No, I’m just saying, admit that you’re old. There were a sh*t ton of people saying the music was garbage during 2nd and 3rd gen too..!! https://t.co/uBFbU6iIwy

All that “music these days” crap is so f*cking pointless. People were constantly saying the exact same thing during 4th gen, 3rd gen, and even 2nd gen too, lmao. People like what’s familiar, so they tend to treat whatever they grew up with as the best. Therefore, this is just proof that you’re getting older, so please accept it and move on. https://t.co/IKy71z0699

When the next generational shift happens, you’ll probably say 5th gen had no flavor either, right? Lmaoooo, it’s so predictable. Let’s just listen to what we like and enjoy our lives...

Please stop dragging K-pop already.

For starters, it’s silly to trash today’s K-pop as meaningless music made for TikTok when hook songs like Ring Ding Dong were hugely popular back then too, and those songs also got dragged as meaningless hook songs at the time. (Personally, I think both current and older songs have meaning in their own ways.) Even if you hate music made for TikTok or Shorts, what can anyone do when that’s the trend? If something is a trend, it ultimately means lots of people are consuming it. And if you actually look, there are plenty of songs that don’t have that vibe. I think people just need to make more of an effort to look around and listen to a wider variety of music. Honestly, tastes have never been more diverse, and we’ve never had more freedom to consume exactly what we want. I don’t understand why people have so many complaints and keep lamenting that K-pop is dying. Just listen to and support what suits your taste, and don’t consume what doesn’t. It’s that simple 😅 I don’t understand why people fight about something this simple every time, insist on disrespecting other people’s tastes, and even go on to drag K-pop artists who are working hard. People on Twitter also fight a lot along company lines, and I think that’s pointless too. It’s not like anyone lives by dividing music according to entertainment company. Just listen if you like it and don’t if you don’t. That’s it. I really wish the people with this weird parasocial identification with entertainment companies would realize how strange they look. Just spend that time enjoying what you like. To put it bluntly, if today’s K-pop is really that bad and you hate it so much, just listen to another genre instead of K-pop.

Also, the people who constantly trash K-pop and ask what K-pop has ever actually done for Korea genuinely come across like anti-Korea haters. If you’ve ever traveled abroad even once, you know we live in a world where telling someone you’re Korean often gets the response, “Oh, I like K-pop!” Please stop going out of your way to trash K-pop culture and try supporting it for once. Why are you so desperate to tear down your own country’s culture?

I’m a fan of one of those older idol groups that often gets overhyped and used as a weapon to bash other idols. Back then, plenty of older adults also belittled idols and ranted that the Korean music scene had gone weird, was oversaturated, and would collapse soon. They called idols talentless lip-syncing goldfish and factory robots, said the lyrics and melodies were garbage, and claimed the songs we enjoyed would disappear once the trend passed because they had no staying power—all while pushing up their glasses and pretending to offer serious analysis.. It’s embarrassing that the generation who went through that is now picking the exact same fights with younger people and getting mocked for being old. At least the adults back then used the internet less, so we rarely had to deal with them directly. Now people barge right into spaces where younger fans are having fun and throw tantrums.. Every generation and era has its own aesthetics and trends, and algorithms and personalized platforms let us see only what we like. Please stop belittling everything because the tastes you loved and got excited about are no longer the mainstream...

Current K-pop: polished or bland?

More polished nowA lot of 2nd- and 3rd-gen songs sound dated, so I prefer today’s music. Everything generally feels more polished now.

Less distinctiveThe overall standard has risen, but that also makes everything feel less distinctive.

People who stanned 2nd gen will always miss 2nd gen, and people who stanned 3rd gen will always miss 3rd gen, so of course today’s music feels boring to them. But today’s music isn’t actually boring; it just isn’t their taste. There’s no need to say K-pop is doomed or whatever. When K-pop really dies, nobody will even bother saying it’s dying.

It’s that idols can no longer become mainstream singers. For example, with Shinhwa, g.o.d, BIGBANG, Girls’ Generation, and BTS, even our parents’ generation knew the groups, although they might not have known every member. Nobody knows 4th- or 5th-gen groups. It’s become their own little league: the people inside it have fun, while everyone outside finds it boring. I think idol popularity is dying. A new era of soloists might be nice too, since trends always come back around.

People will listen to old songs where they can actually hear the lyrics. Only fans listen to today’s songs. Who else would? The songs all sound the same, and promotions end so quickly that how would anyone even learn them? Their singing skills are all about the same too, so do they even deserve to be called singers? Regular people have no interest in today’s idols. They don’t even know who anyone is. Which group today actually has broad public appeal? Does being No. 1 now even mean anything?
