“Fin.K.L as a full group too?” Why do middle-aged idols keep making comebacks?
The post argues older idol reunions work because 1st- and 2nd-gen fans now form a huge, spending-ready audience.
The fundamental reason is that an overwhelmingly large share of the population remembers and is willing to spend on 1st- and 2nd-generation idols.
Around 700,000 to 900,000 of them were born each year, and they grew up during an economic boom. The industry estimates that these Gen Xers and some millennials number at least 15 million to 17 million, or over 30% of the population.

Idol reunions: bring them on or be selective?

Bring them onI'm grateful whenever they come back. It's not just us either—old idol groups overseas start promoting again from time to time, like a special event.
Be selectiveEven if it's meant as a special event, a reunion still needs demand to happen. But part of me also hopes groups won't use g.o.d as the standard for reunions... g.o.d was an exception in so many ways compared with other groups right from debut, so isn't their case too unique to use as a simple reunion model?

It's because idol fans all got old. Idol fans used to be mainly teenagers, then the 1020 crowd became the majority, but that gradually shifted to the 2030 crowd, and now it's starting to move toward the 3040 crowd lol. People who were around the same age as the 1st generation and liked 1st-gen idols would be in their 40s, or even their 50s, so it's not surprising.
My mom's friend is a fan of a trot singer and stays busy going around to events lol. They're retired, so they have plenty of time, and their pension is decent enough that they're pretty comfortable. It even made me think it makes sense in a lot of ways for people like that to do fan activities instead of young people... 1st-gen fans are going to reach that age too.....
