Don't Be Shy - aespa

What happened

A video on aespa's channel, titled "don't be shy" and tagged #SaddleUp and #WINTER, has auto-captions of English lyrics. They include "If I like your energy, then the rest is up to me. Come settle up." The captions are automatic, so their wording may differ from the official lyrics.

In the Korean comments

Two separate comments say something specific about Winter's dancing and this song. One reads, in translation, "This song especially shows off Winter's dance line, and it seems like she pulls it off well." Another reads, "Winter really suits that kind of smooth, soft choreography." The first uses 춤선 (chumseon, dance line), a word that appears in three of these comments. A third comment is about a "suit Saddle Up" and says what kind of suit it should be. In translation: "The day a suit Saddle Up comes, Twitter's going to blow up, I guarantee it. But it has to be a polo-event-style suit, not a Mirotic suit." The comment does not explain either look, so what "polo-event-style" or "Mirotic" means to the writer is left open. One comment writes the name as 겨울 (gyeoul, the everyday Korean word for the season winter) and reads as a reference to Winter. In translation: "Winter's dancing is really fluid." The word it uses for the dancing is 유려하다 (yuryeohada, flowing, graceful). The tags and several other comments write 윈터 (Winter, the English name spelled out in Hangul) instead.

What the words mean

Some comments praise the dancing with food words. One says "춤을 진짜 맛깔나게 춘다" (chumeul jinjja matkkallage chunda, in translation "dances really flavorfully"). Literally, 맛깔나다 (matkkallada) describes food that looks and tastes appetizing. Said of a performance, it means the thing is done with zest and skill. Two other comments use a texture word for the dance line. One says "진짜 춤선 쫀득하다..." (jinjja chumseon jjondeukhada, in translation "the dance line is really chewy"). Another writes "쫜득쫜득" (jjwandeuk-jjwandeuk, a doubled, informal spelling of chewy-chewy). Literally, 쫀득하다 (jjondeukhada) is the texture of something like rice cake: springy and slightly sticky. Applied to 춤선 (chumseon, dance line), it is casual, enthusiastic praise for how the movement feels. The comments do not define it further. Other comments in this sample use words for "smooth," "soft" and "flowing," but they do not say these mean the same thing.
