LE SSERAFIM 'Made My Night' Dance Practice

What happened

LE SSERAFIM's official channel posted a dance practice video for "Made My Night". The auto-captions pick up a chorus built on the repeated line "You just made my night". They also catch lines such as "Our friction's chemical" and "Baby, it's just science," which frame the connection between the narrator and "you" as chemistry.

In the Korean comments

Three of the 15 sampled comments are about how the video sounds, not how it looks. One says polished stages and the like are good, but a practice video where you can hear the group choreography go 착착 (chakchak, snapping neatly into place) is also a real treat. Another says the footsteps in this group's dance practice videos are seriously satisfying to hear, and adds that even the high-pitched beep doesn't grate. A third says the footsteps landing exactly in time are, in the commenter's words, crazy satisfying. Two comments open with 오랜만 (oraenman, "it's been a while"). One welcomes a natural choreography video with no 헤메스 (hemeseu, shorthand for hair, makeup and styling) set up. The other welcomes a practice-room dance practice video. Two comments also work as pointers for a second watch. One likes Chaewon's intro, where, as the commenter puts it, she walks along riding the rhythm with a 둠칫둠칫 (dumchit-dumchit, beat-bobbing) motion. Another names 1:52 as a favorite stretch and calls it the 이리와 (iriwa, "come here") section. Both are the commenters' own descriptions of what they see.

What the words mean

The slang word in the sound-focused comment, 개개맛도리 (gaegaematdori), reads oddly word by word. 개 (gae) literally means "dog", but in slang it is stuck onto the front of a word to mean "extremely", and here it is doubled for extra force. 맛도리 (matdori) is playful slang built on 맛 (mat, "taste") for something delicious, and it is also used for anything excellent, not only food. Here the commenter is saying a practice video with crisp, audible group choreography is an outstanding treat in its own right. The register is casual, exaggerated and affectionate, and the dog is not an insult.
