We're Not Foolish!

What happened

Stray Kids posted a video titled 저희 바보라차 아니에요 (jeohui Babo-racha anieyo, "We're not Babo-racha"). The auto captions are just a repeated exchange: "I'm not a fool. I'm a smart one. Why?" The description links to the release "THIS & THAT" and its two remix versions, "This Remixes" and "That Remixes".

Why Koreans care

The title's 바보라차 (Babo-racha) joins 바보 (babo, fool) to 라차 (-racha), a suffix used in the Stray Kids fandom like a unit name. It is a playful nickname, not an official position. It affectionately groups the members' goofy moments. The title is a denial of that nickname, and the captions repeat the same denial. The caption line 똑똑이에요 (ttokttogi-eyo, "I'm a smart one") uses 똑똑이 (ttokttogi), which sounds cute and childlike. Said about yourself, it comes across as a playful protest, not a serious self-introduction.

In the Korean comments

Several Korean-language comments enjoy the contradiction in the denial. One reads, in translation, "It's cute how they're fools who say they're not fools, and that's so foolish." Another is a pun: "바보 아니에요 근데 바보라차 아는데요" (babo anieyo geunde Babo-racha aneundeyo). In translation: "I'm not a fool, but I do know about Babo-racha." It plays on the video's own line while nodding to the nickname. A third says the song fits the nickname: "진짜 바보라차랑 딱 어울리는 노래야 귀엽다고 너무" (jinjja Babo-racha rang ttak eoullineun noraeya). In translation: "It's a song that really suits Babo-racha, so cute." The top comment, in translation, says they look so foolish that it's unbearably cute. Commenters use "fool" as praise here, not as an insult.

What the words mean

Literally, 바보 (babo) means "fool" or "idiot" and can be a real insult. In this title and in the comments it is affectionate teasing. A comment like "바보같아서 귀여워" (babo-gataseo gwiyeowo, "so silly it's cute") shows the word used as a compliment. The register is casual, fond and exaggerated. The nickname 바보라차 (Babo-racha) is a fan-made label, and the title has the members playfully pushing back on it.
