The Heo Jun Festival is held every year in the 2nd week of October in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, where Heo Jun was born and wrote «Donguibogam». The festival honors his devotion to the people and «Donguibogam», the finest medical text in the East. Heo Jun is revered as Korea’s medical sage and a leading figure in traditional Korean medicine. As Joseon’s foremost physician, he consulted more than 500 royal medical books and completed «Donguibogam» in 25 volumes and 25 books after 14 years of work, in the 2nd year of King Gwanghae’s reign (1610년). Completed after 15 years of dedicated effort, «Donguibogam» was inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2009. First held in 1999 around Heo Gabawei, where «Donguibogam» was written, the festival moved to Seoul Botanic Park in 2023 with a new concept and diverse programs that showcase Heo Jun and Gangseo while creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
