In 2025, marking the 579th anniversary of the promulgation of Hunminjeongeum and the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation, the 14th 도봉한글잔치, themed “Writing Our Language, Hangeul,” will take place. 도봉구 is home to figures who created, protected, and celebrated Hangeul, including Princess Jeongui, daughter of King Sejong; Gansong Jeon Hyeong-pil and Widang Jeong In-bo, who worked to preserve Hangeul during the Japanese colonial period; and poet Kim Soo-young, who sang of freedom through Hangeul. Held every Hangeul Day at Wondangsaem Park in Banghak-dong, 도봉한글잔치 is 도봉구’s signature local cultural festival.
