The 2026 Coal Culture Festival, celebrating its inaugural year, is a comprehensive cultural festival held throughout Sabuk-eup, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, in commemoration of the M650 Museum's opening. This festival brings to life the stories of miners and the history of coal mining—who once led South Korea's industrialization—through contemporary cultural and artistic programs. The festival's core experiences include large-scale thematic performances built around miners' narratives and collaborative programs featuring 7 cities and counties from coal-transition regions. Alongside these are immersive, audience-participation experiences that connect visitors to coal mining heritage. Festival venues center on the newly opened M650 Museum, Ppuri Hall, and the 650 Street area, with diverse performances and cultural events tailored to each space. This event shares Sabuk's rich historical legacy through engaging cultural content.
