A commenter claims the driver called police after the cart hit a passenger’s foot and the elderly woman refused to leave.

An elderly woman boarded a city bus with a wheeled shopping cart, and the driver called the police and made her get off. I've had my feet run over and been bumped into by those shopping-cart wheels on buses and subways plenty of times, leaving me bruised, so part of me thinks this is a good thing. But if even that isn't allowed, I also wonder what people without cars who are struggling financially are supposed to do… pic.twitter.com/1AesaI7zbb

Even earlier today, on my way home,

I saw an elderly woman get on with a shopping trolley too..?

Guess they're actually not allowed

Someone in the comments explained how it ended up like that. Apparently, the driver told her to hold onto it, but she didn't, and it fell onto a passenger's foot. The driver then told her to get off, but she refused, so that's how things escalated. Drivers usually let things like that slide, so if the police were called, there must've been a reason. The comments also say some people get let off the hook, then months after falling or getting hurt they suddenly file a complaint and even demand caregiving expenses. I feel bad for the elderly woman too, but if someone gets hurt, the driver can't be expected to take full responsibility for everything.

There's a big market on my way home, so lots of elderly people board with those wheeled shopping carts, and I've never seen any problems. They can't take a taxi every single time they go grocery shopping, so what are elderly and vulnerable people without cars or money supposed to do from now on?

After reading the comments, I completely understand why the police were called.

If this had happened to them on a bus, they'd have posted something hating on all elderly people, but because it happened to someone else, they're all “That's so sad 😭😭” while spouting nonsense and blaming the driver, who did nothing wrong. Why are there so many comments like that? Bus intervals aren't supposed to get messed up—would the driver really call the police for no reason?
