Buy itPeople buy it because they can't do that, come on.
Make itPut rice in an electric rice cooker, add the amount of water for porridge, press the porridge setting, go to sleep, then wake up and take a bite... Honestly, once I'm thinking straight, that's how I eat it because buying it feels like a waste of money.

For a colonoscopy... you eat it............. which is me this week....... I'm so f*cking grateful they sell it.......
When I was seriously sick and having a rough time, I made all my plain rice porridge myself, but I guess people who are even sicker than I was don't have the energy to cook it at all... I only did it because I still had enough energy lol. I feel like you can figure that out just by thinking about it, so why even debate whether it makes sense? Even with porridge, stirring it so it cooks down without getting too mushy is work, for real.
Plain rice porridge made at home isn't great either because you get these big grains of rice to chew on, but doesn't Bonjuk grind the rice a bit? With chicken or vegetable porridge, I actually like piling in whatever ingredients I want, so I make those myself. But I always buy plain rice porridge for colonoscopies. The ingredients are so simple that the quality difference is actually way more obvious when you buy it.
