The BTS RM effect: SFMOMA sells a record 66,000 tickets... saving the museum from the red

On the 24th local time, the British daily The Guardian spotlighted the buzz around RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me in an article headlined “‘Unlike anything we’ve experienced.’” According to The Guardian, the exhibition, which opened on the 3rd, has sold more than 66,000 tickets so far, and advance sales were 6 times higher than for any previous exhibition in the museum’s history. Exhibition merchandise at the museum shop and online store sold out in 3 hours. Shane Salvata, the museum’s head of retail, said, “It’s unlike anything we’ve ever experienced, and probably anything we’ll ever experience again.” The exhibition features 142 pieces from RM’s personal collection and 36 works from SFMOMA’s collection. It includes paintings, calligraphy and sculptures, as well as Pokémon animation cels.
