The Extraordinary Attorney Woo scene that had viewers in tears back then
This fan-favorite moment hits because Young-woo noticed all the quiet kindness Soo-yeon thought had gone unseen.
- Do you know what her nickname was in law school? It was “Woo Always Comes First.” As in, Woo Young-woo was always going to come first anyway.

- Seeing her makes me miserable. I feel bad when she struggles, so I help her, but then she comes first and I fall behind… It’s the same here as it was in school.

- Then don’t help her. Why help someone who’s stronger than me?

Kwon Min-woo tells Soo-yeon not to help her. - How can I not help her when she’s like that?!

- Then go ahead and help her.

Soo-yeon walks past like Kwon Min-woo did,

but turns back and helps Young-woo.

Even if people said she was just pretending to be nice, and even if helping Young-woo hurt her grades, Soo-yeon always helped Young-woo in the end. Young-woo struggles to open a water bottle,

(Apparently difficulty using fine motor skills can be one symptom of autism spectrum disorder.) Soo-yeon doesn’t help immediately. She watches first, then steps in if Young-woo can’t do it.

- Woo Young-woo, are you okay?

Even when Soo-yeon was scared too, she always protected Young-woo first. - Woo Young-woo, have you eaten?

She always asked whether Young-woo had eaten and checked on her meals. Young-woo never asked first whether Soo-yeon had eaten, and Soo-yeon felt hurt when Young-woo said Dong Geu-ra-mi was her only friend, but she never let Young-woo see it.

Then Young-woo tells Soo-yeon that she’s like the sunshine on a spring day. - You’re… like the sunshine on a spring day.

- …What?

Soo-yeon is surprised by Young-woo’s answer. - I’ve thought that since law school. You tell me where the classroom is, when a class is canceled, and when the schedule changes.

- You try to stop our classmates from teasing me, tricking me, or excluding me.

- Even now, you open my water bottle and say you’ll let me know if the cafeteria serves gimbap again. You’re bright, warm, kind, and caring.

- Choi Soo-yeon, the sunshine on a spring day.

Soo-yeon thought Young-woo had no idea how much she’d quietly done for her back in law school, but Young-woo had actually noticed everything 😭 And Soo-yeon was moved that Young-woo recognized it.

Even now it chokes me up and makes me cry 😭😭 This deserves all the criticism it gets. How do you nail her characterization that perfectly and then pair her up like that?
I genuinely loved that storyline. It felt like the writer was saying warmth and affection are what make someone able to give you warmth even in the middle of winter, like sunshine on a spring day. I hated that they gave her that story and then reduced her to a one-night stand, though. I don’t know why they had to turn her nickname into “the One-Night Stand of a Spring Day.”
Sh*t, I’d already seen this and it made me cry again 😭😭😭 If I were Choi Soo-yeon, I’d remember that for the rest of my life. Just hearing that one thing would make me think, “Oh, I’ve lived a good life. I should keep living well,” 😭
