Turns out these two dramas had the same writer... wow
Flames of Desire
Cruel Palace - War of Flowers
Writer Jung Ha-yeon
He's a grandpa born in 1944,
and apparently he was already a grandpa in his 70s when he wrote those two...
Jang Nok Soo, The King and the Queen, and Empress Myeongseong were also written by him.
(He also wrote the showdown between Queen Insu and Deposed Queen Yun in The King and the Queen so viciously well... lol)

He's pretty much the only male writer who at least seems to have thought about each individual woman's power, desires, and psychology... It's also funny how the men come off even more pathetic in his modern dramas than in his historical ones lol. He doesn't glamorize them.
Wow, he's got serious writing chops. They're all huge hit epics.
He also wrote La Dolce Vita and Sin Don lol
