What happened

RESCENE members riffed on a chant for their name, then jokingly declared their off-key clash the real harmony. The clip is a segment titled 리센느닷없이 (Risen Neudakeopsi, roughly "RESCENE, Out of Nowhere") on RESCENE's own YouTube channel, with members 메이 (May), 진경 (Jin-gyeong), and 예빈 (Yebin) driving the bit.

Why Koreans care

K-pop fandoms build elaborate call-and-chant routines for each group, and turning a group's name into a punny cheer is its own mini-genre of fan content, which is why a whole clip about inventing a chant works as content on its own. The video's central joke plays on the fact that 불협화음 (bulhyeophwaeum, "dissonance") literally contains the word 화음 (hwaeum, "harmony/chord") inside it, so a member's claim that "dissonance is harmony too" reads as clever wordplay to Korean viewers, not nonsense.

In the Korean comments

One top comment took member 메이 (May)'s joke and mock-quoted it as philosophy: "'Dissonance is harmony too' — Maycrates" (majority reaction, playing on a Korean meme habit of tacking "-crates" onto a name to make a throwaway line sound profound). Several fans zeroed in on May's exaggerated body language, one writing: "When May does the "Infinite Challenge" pose while saying 'RESCENE, out of nowhere,' lol, why is she so silly, so cute — sunshine May" (fandom). A smaller number singled out another member's ending, one commenting: "The way 까엉이 (Kkaeng-i) goes 'wow wow wow' at the end is so cute" (minority/fandom).

What the words mean

"Dissonance is harmony too" is not a real critique of the group's singing — it is wordplay, since 불협화음 (bulhyeophwaeum, "dissonance") literally contains 화음 (hwaeum, "harmony") inside it, so calling their off-key chant "harmony" is a pun, not an insult a foreign viewer might take at face value. The "Maycrates" mock-attribution follows a Korean meme convention of adding "-크라테스" ("-crates," echoing Socrates) to a name to jokingly dress up a silly line as a famous quote — without that context it reads like a real reference.
