What happened

ITZY played survival "loyalty games" at a group retreat where the losers had to drink liters of straight lemon juice. Episode 3 of the group's own variety series 다다있지 (DaDa-ITZY), posted on ITZY's official YouTube channel, has the members complete four separate missions and cast a secret vote each round before splitting the juice according to their final combined ranking.

Why Koreans care

The game's slogan, "의리 (uiri, a loyalty/brotherhood code)로 시작해서 의리로 끝난다" ("start with loyalty, finish with loyalty"), leans on 의리 (uiri, loyalty/brotherhood code) as a concept long tied to Korean gangster films and to variety-show running gags about people theatrically over-declaring devotion — so Korean viewers read the whole "loyalty game" framing as a wink from the start, not a sincere team-building exercise. That context also explains the members' initial panic over the giant jug: in Korean variety shows, losing a mission almost always means chugging alcohol as the forfeit, so their guesses ("it looks like milky 막걸리 (makgeolli, a milky rice wine)!", fear of ending up "with holes in our stomachs") play off that shared expectation — the actual penalty, straight lemon juice, is the anticlimactic twist the whole segment is built around.

The English subtitle "Stomalty" is a translator's attempt to save a pun that only works in Korean: in the original it's 위리 (wiri), fusing 위 (wi, stomach) with 의리 (uiri, loyalty) — but the joke only lands if you already know "의리" (uiri, loyalty/brotherhood code) is being mocked as an exaggerated-devotion catchphrase, so English viewers just see a made-up word instead of a pun on the episode's entire theme.
