What happened

The Hearts2Hearts members must choose 20 hot-pot ingredients from a menu they struggle to read. After identifying possibilities such as A5 wagyu and hand-pulled noodles, they leave several choices to chance.

Why Koreans care

When the conversation turns to unusual foods, 번데기 (beondegi, silkworm pupae) means the edible pupae familiar in Korea as a canned or street snack. It comes up after one member says she ate frog legs at her grandmother’s countryside home as a child.

In the Korean comments

One comment reads, in translation, “Midterms <<<<<< Hearts2Hearts’ own content”: the repeated less-than signs make the group’s video emphatically preferable to studying. Another recognizes the music, effects, and editing style as a callback to the Korean variety show New Journey to the West.

What the words mean

In “노유나 자꾸 0개국어 처럼 말하는거 왤케 귀엽지” (No Yuna keeps talking like a “zero-language speaker”; why is it so cute?), 0개국어 (yeong-gaegugeo, zero languages) does not literally question her language ability. It is playful internet slang for speech that comes out so tangled or unclear that it sounds as though the speaker commands no language at all.
