[Exclusive] Cosmetics brand KAHI beat singer Kahi... first trademark protection case even though the products are different

Cosmetics company KAHI, famous for its “Multi Balm,” won a lawsuit against the “KAHI” trademark for dietary supplements made by singer Kahi, formerly of After School. It is the first ruling to find that even when a product is not a so-called “knockoff” and the products serve different purposes—cosmetics versus health supplements—it can still fall within trademark protection if consumers could mistake them for products made by the same company.

Whoa, they must be in different product categories. If rulings go this way, the ripple effects could be huge.

This seems pretty obvious, though. There are tons and tons of people with the same name even in Korean.

Even if Kahi’s stage name is Kahi, Kahi should’ve avoided it if the trademark was already registered.
