When kids are young, I think the important thing is just getting them to write anything at all. Even in online communities, once the spelling Nazis show up, ignore the actual content, and start calling people out, the comments dry up. It must be even worse for little kids.

Oh, are there a lot of schools like that? My kids' school assigns diaries, reading logs, and even Chinese characters as homework. The teacher corrects misspellings in the reading logs with a red pen, and they also have spelling tests and frequent unit tests. The third graders even take English spelling tests... It's in a sought-after school district with tons of students, but I guess there haven't been any complaints yet... Thank you to the teachers for taking care of everything.

Don't think that pointing out mistakes will crush their confidence. Teach them that they might not know something, anyone can make mistakes, and they can learn. lol If you're going to act like this, at least teach them properly at home. If no one can correct anything, when are kids supposed to learn?
