What happened

TXT member YEONJUN released the official music video for his solo track “Ice Cream,” built around choreography and a deliberately noncommittal romance metaphor.

Why Koreans care

The lyrics tap into a familiar Korean dating distinction between a clearly defined relationship and an “애매한 사이” (an ambiguous, undefined relationship). “가깝지도 멀지도 않게 / Let’s keep it 애매하게” proposes maintaining precisely that in-between distance: romantic while together, but cool and detached when apart. Unlike the hopeful ambiguity of “썸” before dating, his insistence that things never become serious makes this sound more like an explicit no-label arrangement.

What the words mean

“깔끔한 distancing” is not about physical cleanliness: “깔끔하게” means handling something cleanly, neatly, and without emotional mess. Likewise, “급하게 삼킴 탈이 날걸” literally describes getting sick from swallowing ice cream too quickly, but “탈이 나다” also naturally suggests that rushing the relationship will cause trouble. The repeated “Ice cream / I scream” turns brain freeze into the emotional consequences of losing the prescribed distance.
