BTS (방탄소년단) ‘Merry Go Round’ Official MV

What happened

BANGTANTV released the official music video for BTS's song "Merry Go Round," whose Korean title and lyrics describe a narrator who feels trapped on an endless, repeating ride and can't get off.

Why Koreans care

The title translates literally to "merry-go-round," but the captions use it as a metaphor rather than a fairground image: lines like "벗어날 수가 없어" (I can't escape) and "침대는 나의 관" (my bed is my coffin) frame the ride as a stand-in for an inescapable daily grind and pain, not a fun ride at a fair.

In the Korean comments

One commenter frames the video as a Chuseok (Korean harvest holiday) present to ARMY — BTS's fan community — writing, in translation, "This must be a Chuseok gift for ARMY... thanks for sending such a generous 한가위 (hangawi, native Korean term for Chuseok) gift, guys! Rest well and eat a lot of good food!" Another commenter points to a specific moment in the video, writing that at 1:28, 윤기 (Yoongi, Suga's given name)'s long hair with a center part is "exactly my type."

What the words mean

회전목마 (hoejeonmogma) literally means "merry-go-round," the amusement-park ride — but in this song it isn't used for its usual cheerful, nostalgic associations. The lyrics repeatedly pair it with phrases like "벗어날 수 없어" (can't get off/escape) and "똑같이 반복될 뿐" (it just repeats the same way), turning the ride into a metaphor for a painful, inescapable cycle. The tone is serious and metaphorical, not literal or lighthearted.
