Trying to Be Like Rita

Korean comments on this video

What happened

In this BABYMONSTER shorts clip, member Rora imitates fellow member Pharita, repeating the line "I'm a queen of the castle" while others on set laugh.

In the Korean comments

The most specific thing in these comments is that several commenters are reacting to Rora's new haircut, not just the impression itself. One comment reads, in translation, "Rora cut her hair! Aaah, so cute!" Another says, in translation, "Has anyone noticed Rora's hairstyle? She finally got what she wanted, Rora! What a transformation!" A third comment ties the haircut directly to Pharita, saying, in translation, "Rora's whole vibe resembles Pharita so much, even the hairstyle is identical." Separately, one comment describes the appeal of the bit itself: in translation, "Watching Rita and Rora copy each other and go '흐흥' while laughing is so cute." (heu-heung, a laugh or scoff sound)

What the words mean

The title, 리타처럼 해보았로라 (Ritacheoreom haeboatrora), is built on a pun. Literally it parses as "처럼 해보다" (-cheoreom haeboda, "try doing it the way [someone] does") in the past tense, but the ending "-았로라" (aseorora, archaic past-tense ending pun on Rora) is not standard grammar — it is a play on the old literary sentence-ending "-노라" (-nora), an archaic, formal way of declaring "I have done [something]," found in old or ceremonial Korean writing. Here the 노 (nora, archaic declarative past-tense ending) (no) is swapped for 로 (ro, sound replacing no in the pun) (ro) so the ending spells out 로라 (Rora), the member's name. So the title reads roughly as "I tried it like Rita — so declares Rora," stacking an old-fashioned grammatical flourish onto a member's name. The register is playful and cutesy, not a real or standard way to speak.
