Recently, the BLACKPINK member took the stage at The Weeknd’s concert in Seoul and sang a duet with the singer.
Everything regarding the performance, right from the soundcheck to Jennie’s outfit, became a hot topic, drawing divided reactions. But her singing skills have probably attracted the most negative attention from netizens.
One particular moment from the duo’s live performance of “One Of Your Girls” has gone massively viral on social media, subjecting the BLACKPINK member to ridicule. At the very end of the song, The Weeknd freestyled the outro, and ended it yelling “sing!”— an invitation for Jennie to join in. She, however, turned to the audience and thanked them, effectively ending the performance.
As the clip capturing this moment went massively viral on X (formerly Twitter), netizens flooded the post ridiculing Jennie, claiming that she was “scared” to sing anything outside her fixed lines. Some also compared the moment with The Weeknd’s performance with Ariana Grande, where a same kind of prompt resulted in Grande delivering an iconic vocal riff.
However, fans defended the idol, pointing out that the song is supposed to end with The Weeknd’s outro and Jennie didn’t sing because there was nothing to sing any further.
