Ock Joo-hyun's Hannam The Hill situation, summed up simply
Commenters are debating a post suggesting Ock Joo-hyun fell deep into debt after a hoped-for real estate profit fell through.

Seems like she was trying to make a profit off a building's price increase, but couldn't sell it and ended up buried in debt.

It seemed like she set the expected profit on the Sinsa-dong building way too high from the start. Maybe she was hoping for a celebrity premium, but building buyers usually aren't that naive, and the market was slowing down a lot at the time. Meanwhile, she rushed into the Hannam The Hill contract at an all-time-high price. They say she financed it all with debt, but it still looks like she put in around 5 billion won of her own money. Unless the auction closes at a decent price or she repays the money quickly enough to get it canceled, she could lose even that entire investment to interest. I know people say there's no point worrying about celebrities, but nobody can keep taking huge losses on major investments and come out unscathed—especially with private debt.
I thought she'd be loaded as hell since she's a top-tier female musical actress in Korea, so what is this... She could've lived comfortably for the rest of her life just by steadily saving her performance fees. I heard she previously went into debt after her yoga business failed too. Maybe she's just really bad at managing money.
There was talk that this was why she monopolized so many musical performance dates. Ock Joo-hyun's company had borrowed money from the musical production company that kept giving her all those dates. What is Hannam The Hill even worth for her to take a risk like that...
