Full text of tvN's official statement regarding Second Signal

tvN says Second Signal will air after weighing one cast member’s past misconduct against the work of the wider production team.

Hello, this is tvN. We take seriously the concerns and feedback viewers have shared regarding the drama Second Signal. As a channel, we cannot take a certain cast member's past misconduct lightly. However, Second Signal is not the work of any one cast member. It is a collaborative creation shaped by the time and effort of many staff members, producers, and others involved, from planning through filming and post-production. We believe the assessment of an individual cast member should be considered separately from the value of the work itself and the efforts of the creators who took part in it. After lengthy deliberation, we have cautiously decided to schedule Second Signal as tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama beginning December 7. Taking the genre and viewing environment into account, it will air at 10 p.m., later than our usual time slot. We will also air through episode 3 during the first week, considering the progression and overall viewing flow of the 8-episode series. On the premiere date, episodes 1 and 2 will air back-to-back, with parts of episode 1 shortened and adjusted while preserving the story's flow and immersion as much as possible. Episode 3, where the main story begins in earnest, will air the following day. After that, one episode will air each Monday and Tuesday. Before reaching this decision, we explored a range of options to minimize concerns while maintaining the quality of the production. We looked into making changes with video technology and also tested replacing the cast member using AI. However, the technology has limitations when it comes to naturally reproducing the performance and the flow of the narrative, making its final implementation difficult. We want to make it clear that releasing the production does not mean condoning or justifying the issue. We understand that this decision may not fully resolve all the concerns you have raised. Even so, we determined that we also had to consider those who have waited a long time for the production, as well as the efforts of the many actors, staff members, and producers who did their best in their respective roles to complete it. We will convey the story and meaning of Second Signal in a way that does them justice, while never forgetting our responsibility as a channel.

I think this is better. Why should everyone's work be thrown away because of one person when they had no idea what they were getting into??

At least swap the face with AI. Chinese dramas replace actors involved in scandals and you can barely even tell; it works great. Spend the money.

Replace the lead with AI like Chinese dramas do. Even if it's a little noticeable, I'd at least consider watching.
