The raw-egg soy sauce rice that shocked me while watching a mukbang

One poster’s raw-egg surprise kicked off a nostalgic debate over how soy sauce egg rice was made in different homes.

Wondering if this is a common way to eat it

My family is Team Raw Egg too. You have to scoop the rice out as soon as you open the lid, crack a raw egg straight onto the steaming rice, and mix it. Then the heat from the rice kind of cooks it a little(?) It's good.

Back around 1996–7, before the internet took off, the kid next door ate it that way, and it did look good. I asked my mom to make it once, but she cooked the egg, and I clearly remember leaving almost all of it. I absolutely hate even soft-boiled eggs, but if you told me to eat it that way now, I'd clean the bowl.

Right, I remember my grandma making it for me when I was really little with freshly cooked white rice, soy sauce, sesame oil, and egg yolk. That's egg rice. What people eat these days is egg fried rice.
